Tailoring School

India is the second largest producer of textiles and garments in the world. Molly John founded the Tailoring School in Chennai several years ago in order to train women for work in the garment industry.

Classes at the Tailoring School teach about 50 young women at a time. So far, over 3,000 women have completed the Tailoring School's 3-month program.

At the Tailoring School, women are taught how to use a sewing machine, how to cut fabric, and how to assemble patterns into articles of clothing. By learning these job skills, the women are qualified for better paying jobs, which bring much needed income to their families. The women also gain a sense of personal dignity and self respect. Through their interactions with Molly and the other Care India leaders, the women also see how Christian women live their faith in real life.
